In the Oakbridge curriculum, music education aims to introduce our children to the fundamentals of music while fostering creativity, expression, and appreciation for different musical styles and traditions. We introduce the fundamental elements of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, and timbre through interactive activities, games, and songs. We develop vocal skills through singing exercises, learning songs from various genres, and participating in group singing activities to promote confidence and teamwork. We provide opportunities for all children to explore and play different musical instruments, both traditional (e.g., drums, xylophones) and modern (e.g. keyboards, recorders) and to develop basic instrumental techniques and appreciation for music-making.
We cultivate music appreciation skills by exposing our children to a diverse range of musical genres, styles, and cultures through recorded music, live performances, and multimedia resources. We encourage creative expression by allowing the children to create their own music, improvise melodies, and engage in creative musical activities using a variety of instruments and digital tools. We introduce our children to significant composers, musicians, and musical works from different historical periods and cultural backgrounds, while also encouraging reflection and discussion about the emotional and cultural significance of music. We provide opportunities for students to showcase their musical skills and talents through school concerts, performances, and other public presentations, fostering a sense of achievement and pride in their musical abilities.
Our music curriculum aims to nurture a lifelong love for music, develop essential musical skills, and promotes cultural understanding and representation. We nurture our children’s appreciation through active engagement with music and enabling all children to have equal opportunities.

How we support children with SEND in Music
All children can achieve, at their own level in music. Their SEN should not be considered a limiting factor, and all should be encouraged to participate fully.
They should be encouraged to explore how the music of a variety of genres, and from different cultures makes them feel, and express this through the means most suitable to their differing needs. They should be encouraged to make music using tuned and untuned instruments that reflect their understanding and appreciation of a variety of stimuli that are adapted where needed.
