At Oakbridge, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) are fundamental parts of every child’s education to become safe, confident and happy citizens. We aim to promote personal development in a structured and developmentally appropriate way to give children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to improve their life chances.
Our curriculum is responsive to our children’s needs including localised and contextual issues. We enable children to develop their sense of self-worth by encouraging them to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community. Our curriculum covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing, safeguarding and healthy relationships. We feel that learning about the emotional and social aspects of growing up will give children and young people the information, skills and positive values to empower them to have safe and fulfilling relationships and to become independent, responsible members of society.
Having introduced children to a wide range of concepts and having exposed them to a variety of experiences, we hope that they will have a strong understanding of the diverse world around them, be well equipped to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and to stay safe in our ever-changing society.
Water Safety will feature within our PSHE curriculum for every year group. This subject is an important aspect of our curriculum due to the proximity of the school to a large body of water. We will revisit this throughout the year and discuss the risks associated with the changing of seasons. Water Safety will also be part of our PE (swimming) curriculum.
Road safety education will be part of our PSHE curriculum. This is to equip our children with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to stay safe on the roads and make responsible decisions as pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers.

How we support children with SEND in PSHE
At Oakbridge, we make sure that all children, including those with SEND, are fully supported in PSHE lessons. We use clear, accessible language, visual aids, practical activities, and personalised approaches so every child can understand and join in with discussions about feelings, friendships, safety, and wellbeing. These adaptations are important because they help children learn in ways that match their individual needs, build confidence, and ensure that everyone can take part, feel included, and develop the skills they need to thrive both in school and in life.
